Real Madrid’s Transfer Moves: Huijsen and Carreras in the Spotlight
In the ever-dynamic world of football transfers, Real Madrid is making headlines once again. The Spanish giants have reached an agreement in principle to sign Dean Huijsen from Bournemouth for a hefty £50 million ($60m). This move comes as part of a strategic effort to bolster their squad ahead of the Club World Cup. But that’s not all; Madrid is also in advanced negotiations with Benfica to secure the services of full-back Álvaro Carreras. Multiple sources have confirmed these developments to ESPN.
The urgency in Madrid’s transfer dealings was sparked by their recent defeat to arch-rivals Barcelona. This loss seems to have accelerated their pursuit of Huijsen, who was also on the radar of several Premier League clubs. However, Madrid’s allure proved too strong, and the player has given the green light to the move. Now, it’s just a matter of the lawyers finalizing the paperwork for the Spain international to don the famous white jersey on a five-year contract.
Once Huijsen agreed to the move, the signing became a mere formality. Madrid is set to pay his £50m transfer clause, although they initially explored the possibility of including players in the deal to reduce costs. Bournemouth, however, was not interested in that option.
ESPN had reported back in March that the 20-year-old defender was a priority for Madrid to strengthen their defense for the upcoming season. Interestingly, Madrid was close to signing Huijsen during his youth days at Malaga. However, his family opted for Juventus, where he continued his development in Italian football. After a loan spell at Roma, Bournemouth signed him permanently, and his impressive rise has earned him a call-up to the Spain men’s national team.
But Huijsen isn’t the only player on Madrid’s radar. The club is also keen on securing Trent Alexander-Arnold, as reported by ESPN. The aim is to have the England international arrive in time for the Club World Cup, alongside Huijsen.
Simultaneously, Madrid is accelerating negotiations to sign former Manchester United full-back Carreras. This deal is expected to cost around €60m ($67m). Earlier this week, ESPN reported that the Galician was the favorite to reinforce the left-back position. Sources are optimistic that the LaLiga giants will secure his signature. Like Alexander-Arnold and Huijsen, the plan is for Carreras to join before the Club World Cup, alongside manager Xabi Alonso, on a six-year contract.
At just 22 years old, Carreras is a product of the Madrid youth system, where he played alongside Raúl Asencio, among others. He is highly regarded by Alonso, which adds another layer of excitement to this potential signing.
