Sunday Results and Analysis
Florida vs. UConn
Final: Florida defeats UConn 77-75
How Florida won: After Friday’s opening-round win, UConn’s Dan Hurley confidently stated that “someone’s going to have to put us down” for the Huskies to exit the tournament without a third consecutive national title. On Sunday, that someone was Walter Clayton Jr. Clayton was the hero of the day, scoring 10 points in a crucial three-minute span, transforming a 59-58 Florida deficit into a thrilling 77-75 victory. This win not only secured Florida’s spot in the Sweet 16 but also ended UConn’s impressive 13-game tournament winning streak.
Clayton’s performance was nothing short of spectacular. Despite not scoring his first bucket until 15 minutes into the game, once he found his rhythm, he was unstoppable. He finished the game with 23 points, leading all scorers, and was particularly dominant in the second half, scoring 15 points and making all three of his 3-point attempts. His decisive 3-pointer with 2:54 remaining erased a two-point UConn lead, and Florida never looked back. Clayton’s heroics were the talk of the tournament, and his performance will be remembered as one of the standout moments of March Madness 2025. — David Hale
