Colorado Rockies Unveil Stunning City Connect Uniforms Inspired by State’s Breathtaking Skies
In a move that has fans buzzing with excitement, the Colorado Rockies have unveiled their new City Connect uniforms, a vibrant homage to the stunning colors of Colorado’s sunsets and sunrises. These uniforms are set to make their debut on April 18 against the Washington Nationals and will be worn during every Friday home game for the rest of the season.
Jim Kellogg, the Rockies’ vice president of community and retail operations, shared the inspiration behind the design with ESPN, saying, “It’s the contrast between the white snow on the mountains and the light blue sky as night is falling, and when the sun comes up in the morning here, we get some reds and oranges that are just unbelievable.”
The uniform design is a striking blend of colors, featuring the iconic mountain logo prominently on the front. The top half of the uniform is a bold cobalt blue, while the bottom half is a rich purple. Complementing the look are white pants with a bold stripe. Additional colors like razor pink and laser orange add to the vibrant palette.
One of the unique features of the uniform is the ripstop pattern on the numbers, a nod to Colorado’s snowboard and ski industry. Ripstop fabric is known for its durability in the challenging conditions of the slopes and is “malleable for the changing landscape experiences on the mountains,” according to the Rockies.
The journey to this design began two years ago in collaboration with Nike. Kellogg explained that the conversation centered around the sky and its brilliant blue hues. “The light blue is really kind of our focal point and then light blue at sunrise and sunset and how the colors transition between the two,” he said. “And then obviously our purple mountains are always our purple mountains and that’s something that we wanted to kind of keep that flow in there with this one as well.”
To ensure the colors were just right, the Rockies sent Nike images of the sunsets at Coors Field. Kellogg praised Nike’s ability to capture the essence of those views in the uniform’s design.
Adding a personal touch, the jock tag features the abbreviation “DEN,” a nod to the team’s home city of Denver. The hat, lined with the Denver city flag, marks a first for the Rockies as they wear the mountain logo on the field during games. Previously, this logo was reserved for batting practice and alternate uniforms, but never on a game hat.
In another first, Colorado is the first team to debut a City Connect pullover jersey, reminiscent of the styles some MLB teams sported in the 1990s. “This is really about the youth,” Kellogg said. “We have a young team. And a throwback to [the] Little League jersey, which was always a pullover jersey, was a t-shirt or a pullover jersey. So it was kind of a youth movement going back to it.”
- 35 different versions of the hat will be available.
- Additional apparel and jackets will be part of the collection.
- The Rockies aim to create a lifestyle brand around this design.
With these new uniforms, the Rockies are not just making a fashion statement; they’re creating a connection with their community and the natural beauty of Colorado. Fans are eagerly anticipating the debut of these vibrant uniforms, which promise to bring a fresh and youthful energy to the team and its supporters.
